In short - NONE and this is something lots of Newborn Photographer would like changed! It is not a regulated industry and lots of generic photographers, new mums wanting more time at home with thier children etc will think I'll try newborn photography. A newborn baby is not a plaything however and once you start down the path of newborn, there is only so much you can do before you think oh I'll try these cool poses I have seen on online. It is THIS that concerns most experienced newborn photographers. There are some poses and transitions where if you do not know what you are doing you can hurt the baby. There is so much to learn! I am a member of the Master Photographers Association and in 2018 as part of my Licentiate Panel assessment I put in for my Newborn certification. As part of this you have to not only demonstrate your work, the work involved in each portrait ie how baby was posed, why, etc But also safety element!!
As a Newborn Photographer I am vastly experienced now BUT I love learning and filling small gaps in my development. I attended a workshop yesterday as part of my CPD it was entered around digital composite 's and wrapping which is something I have been wanted to get better at so I can offer my Hertfordshire clients more of these.
We had three cracking newborns in, the trainer, wrapped the baby and posed the baby. We then took our photograph ready for us to take home and do our edits. I have 538 digitals and I have probably used about 20 of them over the years!
Here is one from yesterday! I’m calling my Earth baby 🌍
